Diplomacy&Beyond: David Michel

On 13 October – the International Day for Natural Disaster Reduction – the next event of Diplomacy & Beyond talk series will host David Michel. The discussion will be focusing on practices of water diplomacy needed to build the policies, institutions and relations (including social trust) between countries and communities, so as to strengthen disaster risk response and societal resilience to meet water resource challenges.

David Michel is a Senior Researcher with Stockholm International Peach Research Institute’s (SIPRI) Environment of Peace 2022 initiative. His work explores the cooperative opportunities and potential security risks posed by mounting pressures on the world’s shared natural resources, and the possibilities for collective institutions to meet global environmental challenges.

Prior to joining SIPRI in May 2020 he served as Senior Research Fellow at the Center for Climate and Security, Senior Manager in the Transboundary Water Management Department with the Stockholm International Water Institute, and as Director of the Environmental Security Program at the Stimson Center. He has advised the US Department of State and the National Intelligence Council on transboundary water governance, food security, and climate policy issues, and held fellowships with the Geneva Centre for Security Policy and the United States Institute of Peace.
