CULTURE AND HERITAGE

The Institute for Cultural Relations Policy and its international partners offer fully customisable training courses focusing on culture and heritage. The courses provide relevant knowledge and develops skills related to culture, cultural heritage and museum education. These programs are designed for – but not limited to – professionals and practitioners working in fields related to cultural heritage preservation, community leaders, educators, social workers, and anyone involved in fostering intercultural understanding.

TOPIC: Cultural heritage preservation

 

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

  • Duration: 7 days training including one day cultural visit
  • Participants: the programme is designed for professionals and practitioners working in fields related to cultural heritage preservation and conservation.
  • Schedule: 4 training sessions per day, one free day, optional study visit

TRAINING SESSIONS

The program includes two training sessions in the morning and two training sessions in the afternoon, combining theoretical and practical aspects. The sessions include the following topics:

The aim of this training is to equip participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively preserve and promote cultural heritage through comprehensive understanding, ethical considerations, and practical application of preservation strategies and digital tools.

  • Participants: the programme is ideal for a diverse range of professionals, practitioners, and individuals who work or interact in multicultural environments, conflict-affected regions, or peacebuilding contexts. It is well-suited for diplomats, international aid workers, humanitarian workers, peacebuilders, mediators, community leaders, educators, social workers, and anyone involved in fostering intercultural understanding, resolving conflicts, and promoting peace.

  • Introduction to Museum Education: Understanding the role of museums in education, their objectives, and the benefits of museum-based learning for youth.
  • Non-Formal Education Methods: Exploring a range of non-formal education approaches, such as experiential learning, participatory activities, and interactive workshops, and their application in museum settings.
  • Museum Pedagogy and Design: Learning about museum pedagogy principles, including audience-centred design, educational programming, and creating engaging learning experiences within museum environments.
  • Integrating Technology in Museum Education: Exploring the use of digital tools, multimedia resources, and virtual platforms to enhance museum-based education and engage youth audiences.
  • Youth Engagement Strategies: Developing strategies to effectively engage youth in museum programs and exhibitions, including outreach initiatives, youth-led activities, and participatory decision-making processes.
  • Cultural Competence and Inclusivity: Understanding the importance of cultural sensitivity, diversity, and inclusivity in museum education, and exploring strategies for creating welcoming and accessible learning environments for all youth.

The aim of the training is to equip youth workers with museum educational knowledge and exchange ideas about involvement of non-formal education methods in it.
