Cesta rozvoje | “EduRight!” Youth Exchange: Empowering Young People Through Human Rights Education
We are thrilled to share the highlights and outcomes of our recent Erasmus+ Youth Exchange project, “EduRight!” which took place in beautiful nature of Moravian Karts, particularly in town of Ochoz u Brna, Czech Republic. This enriching event brought together 35 young people aged 18 to 26, residing in the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Spain, Italy, Portugal, and Turkey. Over the course of the program, participants engaged in a dynamic exploration of human rights through the powerful medium of cinema by using non-formal education methods.
Project Overview
The “EduRight!” Youth Exchange aimed to raise awareness about human rights violations and the critical importance of human rights education. By utilizing movies as a storytelling tool, we sought to empower young people to recognize and act against human rights violations in their communities and beyond.
Objectives
- Increase Knowledge and Understanding: Our primary goal was to deepen participants’ knowledge and understanding of human rights and the various forms they can take.
- Explore Powerful Storytelling: We delved into the use of movies as an impactful tool for human rights education, demonstrating how compelling narratives can drive awareness and change.
- Raise Awareness: We emphasized the importance of supporting and exercising human rights, encouraging participants to become advocates for these principles.
- Promote Initiative: By working on solutions to global issues, we aimed to foster a sense of initiative among young people, empowering them to make a difference.
- Create a Library of Films: One of our key achievements was the creation of a comprehensive booklet—a library of films from participating countries—that address various human rights topics.
Booklet and Video
As part of the project, we compiled a booklet featuring a curated list of movies from the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Spain, Italy, Portugal, and Turkey (plus few extras). Each film selected addresses different aspects of human rights, providing valuable insights and sparking meaningful discussions. This booklet serves as a lasting resource for educators, students, and advocates: https://cesta-rozvoje.cz/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/human-rights-film-library.pdf
Feel free to download it here and use it for human rights education. The reflection questions for each film will help you to lead reflection discussion after watching the movie.
We also produced a video capturing the essence of the “EduRight!” Youth Exchange. This video highlights the mood, significant moments, and the profound impact the project had on participants. You can watch it here: https://youtu.be/w0F0AEEkGSs?si=iXnjMT5gc6H7QpHR
Conclusion
The “EduRight!” Youth Exchange has been a transformative experience for all involved, underscoring the power of education and storytelling in promoting human rights. We are proud of the knowledge shared, the discussions sparked, and the initiatives inspired by this project.
