Hunting the truth: Education through information

Project summary: The spread of prejudices and superficial behavior is one of the biggest problems of our days – misinformation plays an important role in keeping those negative aspects. This way, this project focus on the need of better written press with understanding on the importance of reliable sources and documentation. In this regard, the objectives we have set are:
● Improving knowledge on how to find and use reliable sources;
● Monitoring of the international actuality through quality standards;
● Analyzes of case studies on topics of the participant’s choice from international news journalism, using qualitative techniques under the guidance of experts.

During the project, 40 participants from Romania, Portugal, Hungary, Bulgaria and Lithuania will meet to discuss and improve their skills on journalism and media literacy. The participants do not need to have experience in online communication or journalism, but they will be selected together with the partner organizations after completing a short questionnaire. We want to ensure the motivation of the participants to guarantee the quality of the project’s outcomes.

The main activities of the project will consist of the workshop “Education through information” which will be conducted by the implementation team and facilitators contracted for this project. The participants will receive the necessary information in order to acquired the skills and achieve the expected objectives through non-formal education techniques, debates, open discussions and other methods. During the practical activities, the young participants will work in international teams that will conceive journalistic materials on the field of international actuality using the principle of education through information.

In addition to these activities, which form the core project, we provide a number of elements that we want to boost the group’s cohesion. This way, there will be an “NGO Fair” which will be presented to the partner organizations; intercultural evening, a multilingualism day and the screening of documentary films followed by discussion between participants and cultural visits.

The practical activity of the project will consist on the production of online materials that will be designed in the spirit of education through information and will be posted on an online platform developed by the organization. The results will be made available to the general public, the participants will be encouraged to continue the work of identifying quality information sources and output of materials consistent with the values of education through information after the project. During the 10 days of activities, the participants will be encouraged to find solutions and to propose ways to put them in practice. Finally, we aim on ensuring a growing awareness of the need to correct information in a dynamic and growing vulnerable society to propaganda actions fuelled by a weak verification of sources and information offered to the public.
